These are my kids.
I took these photos just a couple years ago. Of course I wanted that beautiful portrait—the one where they're both looking at the camera, nobody is making a weird face, and for one brief moment everything looks perfect.
And I got it.
But looking at these photographs now, that isn't necessarily the picture that means the most to me. It's the moments in between. The laughing. The silliness. The way they looked at each other. The little interactions I probably didn't think twice about at the time.
They're 15 and 17 now, and let's just say their relationship isn't quite as affectionate these days. Which makes these photographs feel different to me now.
I didn't just photograph what they looked like at that age. I photographed who they were together.
Photographing my own children this way has shaped the way I photograph families today.
Yes, I want to give you the beautiful portrait where everyone is looking at the camera. But I also want the laughter, the teasing, the personalities, the genuine connections and everything that happens in between—because we don't always know which photographs we'll treasure most years from now.
I photograph families and siblings throughout Fairfield County, creating both the beautiful portraits
and the unscripted moments that happen in between.
